Access Statement For HILL VIEW
Introduction
We are a small establishment providing en suite Bed and Breakfast accommodation within a family home and are looking to inform all who are considering visiting Hill View with as much information as possible so that they can make a decision as to whether our facilities are suitable and comfortable for them.
We are a non smoking home. We operate a non smoking policy throughout the property as part of our health and safety policy and to aid fire prevention.
Pre-Arrival
We are accessible to check for availability via telephone, fax, email and online booking facility.
We are able to deliver reservation confirmation in large print format.
Our website has a number of photographs of our rooms so that a better idea of our facilities can be gained. We can supply hard copy print outs of sections of the website of particular interest.

Information about routes to reach us can be supplied in various formats and from various parts of the UK.
We have mainline rail services which come into Bridgwater, a distance of 4.5 miles from Hill View and by prior arrangement will collect and return our guests to the station. Timings of services from different destinations can be researched for you if requested. Taunton mainline station, a distance of 12 miles from Hill View is on the major London Paddington route and the journey takes from approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Hill View is on the edge of a small village and the there is a local general supplies shop, butchers, church and pub restaurant. The distance to these services is approximately 0.8 miles and by a short cut is about a 12 minute walk. There is a bus route into Bridgwater, 4/5 miles away. These buses run approximately every 2 hours from the village centre. We are always happy to arrange taxi hire or indeed drive guests to a nearby location by prior arrangement.
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
Hill View has two entrances either end of a semi circular drive which allows for driving in and out without the need for turning, if you should have large vehicle or be towing.
There is ample parking available close by to the front door and also on a hard standing some 10 metres from the house. The parking is off street and secure. We have a number of outbuildings which will accommodate bicycles or other wheeled carriages and are very pleased to supply this storage facility.
The main driveway is gravelled.
You will be greeted on arrival and shown where to park and offered assistance with your luggage. Underfoot as you approach the front door which has one stone step, is gravel. It is possible to park within 2 metres of the front door if necessary.
The house is illuminated at night with outside lights at the front and the back.
The road leading to Hill View is a single track road with open fields to one side and the turning into the driveway is directly from this road.
There is signage on the gate which announces our membership of South West Tourism. Hill View is displayed on the pillar for the gate and also the number 55.
Main Entrance & Reception
We have a lounge available on your arrival so that you may be seated for registration purposes. We also have a desk and chair available in the hall. The ground floor of the house is well lit, the floor is on one level and the lounge, dining room, hall area etc, all flow into each other. All floors are oak; there are no colour changes between the rooms.
Public Areas – Upstairs
The bedrooms are on the second floor and these are reached by a staircase. No lift is available.
The staircase is one straight run of 13 steps which are carpeted and have a rise of 20cms per step. There is a banister on the right hand side. The left hand side is a plain wall.
The landing is level apart from one small step (10cms) to traverse from the back to the front of the house.
The landing has handrails along most of its length on the right hand side.
The landing is carpeted and the carpet colour is similar throughout all of the upper level.
Our guest rooms both have en suite toilet facilities and we also have a downstairs cloakroom.
The stairs and upper landing is well lit. This lighting is automatic and operated by sensor.
Public Areas
Our downstairs cloakroom is situated near the back door. The WC is standard fitting. There are no support rail/bars. There is a small hand basin with running hot and cold taps. The flooring in this area is stone tiling and there is a small change in level (3cms) to move into the hall and other areas of the ground floor.
Dining Room
The dining room has one large table which seats a maximum of eight. It is solid wood with wooden chairs, two of which have arms.
There is space around the table extending to between 1.0 and 1.3 metres.
The flooring is oak wood panelled floor and the level from the adjoining hall is the same.
The room is well lit with two wall lights and an overhead light.
Bedrooms
The Sunset Room at the rear of the house is continuous with the direction rising from the stairs.
The Sunrise Room involves turning at the top of the stairs and mounting one small step (10cms) and walking along a small landing with handrail.
The rooms are fitted with mains/battery fire alarms and the landing has automatic sensor lighting.
The bedroom televisions have remote controls and DVD playing facility.
The flooring in both bedrooms is carpet with wooden panelled in each en suite en suite.
There is central overhead lighting in both rooms, with table lamps to each side of each bed in addition.
The Sunset Room has twin bed availability or superkingsized conversion.
The Sunrise room is fitted with a king-sized bed.
Hospitality trays are provided with plugged kettles.
The beds are dressed with feather duvets and pillows alternatives for allergy sufferers can be provided on request.
En-suites
Neither of the en-suite are fitted with hand rails or bars.
The shower rooms for both bedrooms are en-suite and approached by an internal door accessible only within the bedrooms.
The approximate distance to each from the bed in each room is 1-2 metres.
The dimensions of the en-suite in the Sunset room is 2 metre by 1.4metres.
The dimensions of the en-suite in the Sunrise Room is 2.8 metres by 1 metre.
The doors to both en-suites are standard internal wooden doors with standard door knob type door furniture.
The unobstructed floor space in the Sunset Room is approximately 1.5 sqms.
The shower is located to the right and a wash hand basin to the left with WC next on the left. The shower is a walk in single entrance shower with bi-fold door which is approximately 80cm wide. The shower tray is a small step up of 15 cms in height. The shower is a thermostatic mixer type, power shower with twist/turn knobs and adjustable height shower head.
The hand basin has hot and cold running water from two taps.
The WC is a standard fitting, average height.
The unobstructed floor space in the Sunrise Room is approximately 2sq ms with the shower cubicle directly ahead at the far end of the room, a washhand basin to the right and the WC located between the shower and right hand wall.
The shower tray is a small step up of 15 cms in height. The shower is a thermostatic mixer type, power shower with twist/turn knobs and adjustable height shower head. The cubical has two doors to a corner unit which open giving an entry space of approximately 500 cms.
The handbasin is integrated into a vanity unit and has level operated mixer tap. Hot and cold water is obtained by moving the level to the right and left and up and down to turn off and on.
The WC is a standard fitting, average height.
Grounds and Gardens
Our garden is mainly laid to grass with a small rockery.
Where the garden attaches to the adjoining farmland there is a slope upwards with a gradient of approximately 30 – 40%. The remaining area is level.
The grassed area is accessed via the gravelled driveway.
There is in summer months, a wooden patio table and chairs within the grassed area.
Additional Information
Mobile phone networks availability is normally good from all parts of the house.
Neither of the bedrooms is over the lounge area thus keeping noise in the evenings to a minimum.
The house fridge is available for storage of any special food or medications items which need to be kept cool.
We are on site normally during the whole of your stay should you need help or assistance can be summoned within a short distance of 2 – 6 metres from each bedroom door. At night we are in the front right bedroom.
